SHORT CV of Valter Ulderico DRAGONI (know as Walter Dragoni) STUDIES ** Degree in Geological Sciences, University of Rome "La Sapienza", 1969. ** Intensive Specialization Short Courses in Hydrogeology, Hydrology and Groundwater Modeling at the Holcomb Research Institute of Indiana, Colorado State University (USA), 1980 & 1981. ** Various short visits of study and research in USA, France, Spain, Israel, China, Morocco. WORKING & ACADEMIC CURRICULUM **1969-1977: Worked in mining prospecting and applied geology for private companies in Australia and Italy, while also collaborating with Institute of Geology, University of Rome. Teacher of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in various Italian Public Schools. **1977-1988: Researcher at IRPI-CNR (Research Institute for Defense against Geological and Hydrological Catastrophes, Italian Research Council). **1988-2015: a permanent position of Professor of “Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology”, Department of Earth Sciences (later Department of Physics and Geology), University of Perugia. Full Professor in 1999. At Perugia University, Dragoni taught "Hydrogeology" and “Engineering Geology” in Bachelor and Master courses in Geological Sciences and Coordination of Civil Defense. Also, for several years, taught “Hydrology and Hydrogeology” at University of Tuscia, Viterbo. Occasionally taught intensive courses in “Hydrogeology” for foreign students at WARREDOC (Water Research and Documentation Center), University for Foreigners of Perugia and "Archaeology of Water" at Roma 3 University. 2015 – Retired on November 2016 - Professor (on contract) of “Hydrogeology” in the Master Course of Petroleum Geology (Perugia University). ADMINISTRATION & COORDINATION RESPONSIBILITIES (Perugia University) ** 2013 - 2014: Director of the Department of Earth Sciences ** 2006 - 2010: Director of the Department of Earth Sciences. ** 2000 - 2005: Chairman of the council for degree courses in Geological Sciences. ** 2000 - 2004: Coordinator of Ph.D. School in “Engineering Geology, Geomorphology and Hydrogeology”. TECHNICAL AND RESEARCH PROJECTS Dragoni has served as an expert consultant for Italian Civil Defense, dealing with many cases of environmental and hydrogeological disasters, including landslides and flooding in Valtellina (1987), large-scale landslide at Caramanico (1990) and groundwater pollution at Conca Ternana (1988 and 1993). On behalf of the University of Perugia, Dragoni was responsible for several public research contracts (ENEL, local authorities, etc.). SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY Walter Dragoni has carried out and coordinated research on hydrogeology (Darcy and non-Darcy systems), hydrology, limnology (studies on several lakes in Central Italy), karst (in temperate and arid climates), erosion and landslide phenomena. At present, mainly works on mathematical modeling of hydrogeologic and hydrologic systems and problem of influence of climatic variations on the water cycle. Also interested in the history of water management and archeology of water works. Author or co-author of more than one hundred scientific papers.
