Kwiatek, Grzegorz

Biography
Grzegorz Kwiatek is a researcher at Section 4.2: Geomechanics and Scientific Drilling of the GFZ German Research Centre of Geosciences and at the Department of Earth Sciences, Institute of Geological Sciences of the Free University, Berlin. His background is Environmental Geophysics, with a focus on physics of earthquake source, earthquake scaling relations, and geomechanics. His research focuses on the analysis of fluid- and mining-induced seismicity towards understanding interactions between physical processes in earthquake source, geomechanical properties of geo-reservoirs in response to engineering operations, and resulting seismic hazard. His another area of interests focuses on physics of rupture nucleation and propagation and earthquake scaling relations in broad range of scales between the acoustic emission activity recorded in laboratory experiments on rock samples and microseismicity recorded in-situ. In 2002 he obtained MEng in Environmental Geophysics at the Department of Geology, AGH University of Mining and Metallurgy, Kraków, Poland. He then completed his PhD in Seismology at the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poland, in 2007, followed by habilitation in Earth Sciences in 2014.
