Il gesso delle valli del faurdo e del caolino (isola di Lipari, Messina, Sicilia)

Lipari is the greatest of seven islands of the Aeolian archipelago. On the island there are two areas whose
rocks are deeply altered by fumarolic activity. The first one at Pianoconte: Valle del Faurdo (Faurdo Valley)
and the Terme di San Calogero; the second at Quattropani: Cava di Caolino (Kaolin Quarry). In these
areas there are some fumaroles of low temperature (80°-100°C) as testified by the presence of sulphur and
hydrated sulfates; among the latters the most interesting is the gypsum.
