The uncertainties in the original measurements (about 3 ppm), and the time span between the two observations, imply that tectonic signals larger than about 0.03 ppm/yr are resolvable. Along the Apenninic belt, where the largest earthquakes are concentrated, the geodetic deformation has a clear and consistent strain pattern between adjacent regions, well above the uncertainties, and shows a pervasive NE-SW extension. Along the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic coasts the geodetic signal is not homogeneous and is comparable with the uncertainty in the original measurements. Seismic deformation, calculated over the same time interval, agrees well with estimated extensional direction, but the magnitudes of geodetic and seismic strain differ suggesting that, in part of the Apennines, significant strain accumulation over the past 130 years may not have been released in earthquakes.238 32 - PublicationRestrictedItalian Magnetic Network and Geomagnetic Field Maps of Italy at year 2000.0(2001)
; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;Since the 1930’s a modern Italian Magnetic Network composed of repeat stations regularly distributed over the Italian territory and integrated by Magnetic Observatories, has allowed the determination of the spatial structure and the time variation of the Earth’s magnetic field over Italy. In this paper the results of the latest Italian magnetic survey undertaken over 114 stations, uniformely distributed over the Italian peninsula and islands, are presented. Data reduced at the year 2000.0 have been used to compute normal fields and to update a second order network of 2550 stations, to draw new magnetic maps for all geomagnetic field elements (D, H, Z and the total field F) for Italy at the year 2000.0.200 20 - PublicationRestrictedItalian Magnetic Network and Geomagnetic Field Maps of Italy at year 2005.0(2007)

In this paper we describe the characteristics of magnetic first and second order networlts, the magnetic measurements and the data elaboration procedures. We report the new repeat station information and data reduced at 02,, hours for the day of measure and at the epoch 2005.0; we determined, for all elements, the coefficients for normal fields at 2005.0 and for secular variation in the period 2000-2005. The new maps for Italy, for D, F, H and Z at the year 2005.0, drawn with graphic contouring programs, together with a short explanation, are enclosed to this paper. In this paper the procedures for magnetic measurements and data elaboration are described. Furthermore, for all the repeat stations data reduced at of the measurement day, at the epoch 2010.0; are presented. At the same epoch the coefficients for normal fields were determined for all the data, in order to draw the new maps of the geomagnetic field elements (D, H, Z and total field F) at the year 2010.0, at 1: 2 000 000 scale. All these maps were created by mean of interpolation procedures on GIS platform.319 64
