Abstract: Some considerations are reported on the tectonic setting and microplate mosaic in the Mediterranean zones where VLBI and SLR stations are located. In particular, the possible sources of ambiguity in the determination of the Africa-Eurasia and Adriatic-Eurasia relative motions from geodetic data are discussed. Possible alternative kinematic interpretations, with respect to those reported in the literature, are then proposed.
