Italian Magnetic Network and Italian Geomagnetic Field Map at year 2015.0

Abstract

During 2014 and 2015 the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) carried out a survey of measurements over 131 repeat stations of the Italian Magnetic Network (including 2 observatories, 11 stations in Albania, 3 in Corsica and 1 in Malta) with the primary purpose to update old 2010.0 survey data. In this way the Istituto Geografico Militare (IGM) was able to produce a new series of magnetic maps at epoch 2015.0, at a scale of 1 : 2 000 000. All these maps were created by mean of interpolation procedures on GIS platform. In this paper the procedures for magnetic measurements and data processing are described. Furthermore, for all the repeat stations, data reduced at 02UT of the measurement day, at epoch 2015.0, are presented. At the same epoch the coefficients for normal fields and secular variation, for the period 2010-2015, were determined for all data, in order to draw the new maps. In attachment there is the collection of magnetic maps of Italy including also a CD rom.
