Biography
I am a rock physicist with expert knowledge on brittle processes in rocks and other geomaterials, and their impact on intrinsic properties and associated risks. I work to advance our understanding of material behaviour at shallow depth by characterising its physical properties and mechanical response to natural and anthropogenic changes. I use this knowledge to develop multi-scale models, inform decision making, and create innovative collaborations. I lead academic and commercial research projects, manage students, staff and stakeholder expectations, and run and develop BGS Rock Mechanics and Physics Laboratory. I received a M.Sc. (2007) and a PhD (2010) in Geophysics from the Université Paris Diderot (France), and completed 2 postdocs in the Laboratory for Rock Physics of the University of Maryland, College Park (USA, 2011-2013) and in the Fault Mechanics group at ISTerre (France, 2013-2014). I was awarded the EGU outstanding student poster award (YSOPP) in 2010.
