Biography
Alexis Apostolakis got his engineering degree from the Electrical and Computer Engineering school (ECE) of National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 1993. His diploma thesis was in the field of Reinforcement Learning. He has an MSc (2016) in Space Science, Technologies and Applications from University of Peloponnese (UoP) and the National Observatory of Athens (NOA).
He is currently working as a research partner and data scientist engineer for the Beyond team (beyond-eocenter.eu) of National Observatory of Athens (www.noa.gr) - Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing. As part of this collaboration he is engaged in the research and implementation of machine learning, array databases and general software development for Remote Sensing services as well as in research papers and proposals writing.
He has long professional experience in software development and IT from different job positions and entrepreneurship. He started as a freelancer in 1991 developing applications for Surveying and Road planning. Among others, he has worked for the Greek mobile Operator Cosmote (2001-2013) as IT DevOps manager and Project Manager and the Athens metro development company Attiko Metro (1997 – 2001) as business systems software engineer. From 2011 he is an associate member of Technocontrol (https://technocontrol.gr/), a company applying Industrial Automation solutions.
