Biography
Since 2005 my main research activity concerned on the characterization and monitoring of contaminated sites via the application of different assessment methods (hydrogeological, geophysical and hydrochemical) to evaluate contaminant sources and fate and to verify the efficiency of the reclamation strategies. Groundwater flow and solute transport modeling has been a useful tool to simulate density-dependent bio-geochemical interactions between sediment and groundwater (both under saturated and unsaturated conditions) in order to validate conceptual models and to evaluate different scenarios on the modelled filed site.
Recently I’ve been focusing on water resources management and protection in the coastal plains. The main targets are: (i) to understand salinization processes due to the interaction between marine, surface and ground waters and to test strategies for the mitigation of environmental issues induced by water resources salinization (such as artificial recharge and sustainable withdrawals); (ii) the correct calculation of water and nitrogen balance at basin scale to face environmental issues induced by intensive agriculture.
