Biography
Vasco Vieira has a graduation in Marine Biology (UAlg), a Masters in Ecology and Population Dynamics (UAlg) and a PhD in Earth, Marine and Environmental Sciences (UAlg). Vasco Vieira worked in CCMar (UAlg) until 2012, then moved to Maretec (IST) where he researches and is member of the scientific council. From its early stages he focused his research in ecology and evolution of algae and seagrasses, with special dedication to the algal biphasic life-cycles, to the biomass-density relations in algae and seagrasses, and to its use as ecological indicator. Associated to these lines, he developed a parallel line about the development and application of numerical methods to ecology and evolution. Since 2010 Vasco Vieira has developed an alternative line about marine biogeochemical cycles, greenhouse gases, and climate change.
