Biography
Geodesy is an interdisciplinary science. I have used it to investigate different fields of Earth sciences and Physics, and never hesitated to refer to specialists and to collaborate with them. I collaborate with hydrogeologists to better understand the environmental effects on gravity measurements, and with metrologists to investigate instrumental effects. Like other geodetic techniques, gravity measurements are influenced by environmental changes, in particular, hydrological variations. We have proved that local (radius of ~100 m) effects contain the largest part of the hydrological influence on gravity measurements. This was done in close connection with hydrologists, geologists and students from Belgian universities, as well as geodynamicists in France, Luxembourg and Austria. I have also conducted gravity measurements contributing to better constrain the hydrological cycle in a karst water system. I work with the Seismology team to investigate intraplate deformation processes and seismicity. Hence since 2000, I have conducted repeated AG measurements in Belgium, France and Germany. I have also established fruitful collaborations with instrument manufacturers, who appreciate my abilities to thoroughly investigate their products. A large part of my work takes place in the field, with state-of-the art technologies. This requires problem solving skills whenever and wherever they may occur, to establish relationships with local contacts and the supervision of a team. For each project I managed, I interpreted the data, published the conclusions in the best geophysical journals (01-2017: 40 publications in international journals with reviewing committee) and presented them at important international meetings. I have networked with different teams, which has allowed me to achieve many new findings in absolute and superconducting gravimetry. Each project and collaboration has been a fantastic scientific and human experience.
