Abstract: This paper presents the interpretation of a set of seismic reflection profiles, crossing the Auletta, Diano and Agri basins, in the axial zone of the Southern Apennines. Seismic data reveal that the genesis and evolution of the investigated basins have been controlled possibly since Late Pliocene by a system of NW-SE trending, normal faults, bordering the basins, and related to SW-NE extension, still active in this region, as indicated by seismological (earthquake focal mechanisms), geological (stress indicators, active fault patterns) and geodetic data.
