Abstract: onospheric soundings carried out at the same site and simultaneously with GPS measurements could contribute to the better understanding of the variations of the total electron content. However, for this purpose the total electron content deduced from GPS measurements must be converted to the place of observation. A method based on an interpolation considered as boundary value problem is recommended for this conversion. Furthermore, the possibilities of the application of datapobtained by ionopheric soundiings in GPS measurements are discussed and also preliminary results of model calculations are presented.
